Wireless
Subscribers Now Have Access to an Array of Words at Their Fingertips
Cardiff by the Sea, Calif. December 1, 2003 KI TAEK and Associates,
LLC, (KTA), a mobile applications developer and services company, today
announced LookItUp! Mobile, developed for QUALCOMMs Binary Runtime
Environment for Wireless (BREW) platform.
LookItUp!
Mobile is the first of a series of online wireless applications
developed by KTA. The application offers users an intuitive menu driven
application to search for more than 130,000 words and definitions on
their BREW-enabled phones. Features include Word of the Day, Optional
Startup, Refine Search and a Close Match list for words that have been
misspelled during input. The American Heritage dictionaries are widely
known for their clear and precise definitions, for their authoritative
usage guidance, and for the breadth of information they offer on the
wealth and history of the English language.
"QUALCOMMs
BREW platform enabled us to quickly bring to market our first wireless
application," said David Kim, CEO, Ki Taek and Associates. "We chose to
use the American Heritage line of dictionaries for their powerful and
authoritative content. Combining this content with the flexibility of
the BREW platform enables us to rapidly and easily offer an incredibly
useful and informative service worldwide."
"We
are very excited to now provide mobile access to our dictionaries with
the help of Ki Taek and QUALCOMM," said David Langevin, vice president
and director of sales and business development, Houghton Mifflin
Company. "The widespread distribution supported by the BREW system will
allow more users to benefit from the wealth of information contained
within the American Heritage Dictionaries."
"We
are very committed to expanding the catalog of applications available
for operators offering BREW-based products and services, and in working
with Ki Taek we are looking to expand the types of educational
resources available on mobile devices," said Mike Yuen, director, BREW
Developer Relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services. "We are proud to
assist Ki Taek in their inaugural launch of wireless content and
introduce them to an established community of operators, enabling
everyone involved to benefit from the revenue generating possibilities
available in the wireless industry through the BREW system."
QUALCOMMs
BREW system provides products and services that connect the mobile
marketplace value chain, which includes application developers,
publishers, content providers, device manufacturers, operators and
consumers.
Publishers and developers worldwide are generating
revenue from BREW-based applications and content, and 21 manufacturers
have offered more than 100 BREW-enabled device models to consumers. The
BREW system is successfully enabling the commercial wireless data
services of many very successful operators, including Verizon Wireless,
ALLTEL, CellularOne, Midwest Wireless and U.S. Cellular in the United
States, China Unicom, KDDI in Japan, KTF in South Korea, Hutch in
Thailand, Telstra in Australia, VIVO in Brazil, BellSouth International
